Another Cool Writing Idea
Art is often a solitary activity, but sometimes collaboration can be fruitful and inspiring. Especially when the person you’re working with has skills that compliment yours.
Here’s a project that helps writers and artists connect in a meaningful way to create exciting new art. It’s called Art Spark, and it’s the brainchild of Amy Souza. She started the project in 2008, to kick a creative slump and found what appears to be a vibrant community of participants. Here’s how it works:
The project’s rules are simple. Writers send artists a story or poem, and artists send writers an image of their painting, photograph, or sculpture. During the ten-day project period, each person uses their partner’s piece as a jumping off point for new work of their own. People are allowed to respond to their partner’s work in whatever way they wish (although writers are asked to keep their pieces to 1,500 words or less).
Here are some examples from the last Art Spark. The next Art Spark starts in August, so don’t be afraid join up if you’re interested.
