Wednesday Writer’s Resource
As I mentioned in other posts, Weekly Writing Assignment is as much about sharing resources as it is about the assignments and contest. Every Wednesday, I’ll be sharing a resources for writers of all types.
So today, I’m sharing with you the website of one of my favorite literati luminaries: Garison Keeler’s Writer’s Almanac. This is the original literary podcast. Every day, Keeler shares snippets of literary history, and reads a poem. Now, I’m not a huge poetry fan, but no one alive today can read a poem like Keeler. His deep voice, crisp annunciation and clear love of language make his deliveries dynamic without being melodramatic.
When I was in undergrad, studying English and writing papers and stories until 3 or 4 in the morning (yes, I really did used to do that), I would always turn on WYPR (back then, it was WJHU) to listen to the Writer’s Alamanac at midnight. That’s how I knew the real fun was beginning.
Take a listen if you get a chance.
