Weekly Writing Assignment #7: Random Words, Urban Dictionary Edition
New Due date: Midnight, September 8, 2009.
The Urban Dictionary is one of the most fun websites I have ever visited. It’s sort of a crowd-sourced dictionary, filled with fun slang. It’s great for people like me who are in love with language, both its meaning and its unusual usages.
This week, we’re doing another random word challenge, but this time using words strictly taken from the Urban Dictionary. I’ve chosen 15 somewhat random words (with links to their definitions). Be warned: the Urban Dictionary is literally filled with dirty slang words. I’ve chosen not to use some of the dirtier ones, but there are a few in here that can be considered “R” rated.
Your assignment is to use them to create a very short story. Your story should be 300 words MAXIMUM. Stories longer than this will not be eligible to win.
The words you will be using are:
- phone sex
- down and out
- brodies
- soft eyes (I particularly like this one, as it comes straight out of The Wire (the best TV show ever made))
- decider
- fagal
- hommie (misspelled on purpose)
- pain in the ass
- I have a wide stance
- neckbeard
- nunga nungas
- Rickrolled
- dirty dub
- fershnickered
- uber
You may use these words in any way. Conjugations are permitted (e.g. “commands,” “cajoles,” etc.) but permutations are not (e.g. “dictation,” “broken,” etc.) If you don’t know the word, look it up. There’s nothing worse than misusing a word in your writing, even when it’s slang!
Except for typos. Please spell check and make sure your punctuation is correct. If you’re unsure about something, ask someone or consult a resource.
Send your completed assignment to weeklywritingassignment@gmail.com. Please include the assignment number in the subject of your email. Please also include your name and email in the header of your entry. And if you are on Twitter, please let me know what your Twitter ID is so I can tweet it.
New Due date: Midnight, September 8, 2009.
Late assignments will not be accepted.
Good luck!
